How to maintain a painted metal roof or garden fence

Do you think that maintaining a painted metal roof or fence is a chore beyond your abilities? Think again! With a little DIY know-how, keeping the exterior house paint of your home looking spick, span and spotless is actually a simple process. The most important skill you need to have under your belt however, is knowing how to paint metal: if metal surfaces are not correctly prepared in the first place, then maintenance will be near impossible. 1.Clean the roof or garden fence to be painted thoroughly When it comes to any kind of house painting, a clean start is essential. Remove as much rust and old paint as possible using a wire scourer, sandpaper and paint stripper. If the metal you are painting is new, use a mild detergent to remove any oils on the surface. Apply a metal paint primer Since acrylic paint works best on metal, you should choose an oil based primer, and apply 2 coats, allowing for thorough drying time inbetween. Apply 2 to 3 coats of acrylic paint Use a brush rather than spray paint for a better, longer lasting finish. Paint thin, even coats and allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Apply an appropriate sealer For exterior surfaces, apply a sealer to add protection against the elements. Maintain the colour and shine Once a year, wash the roof or fence using a high pressure hose and a mild solution of detergent and ammonia, rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Apply sealer if necessary. Whether you’re sprucing up the roof or choosing a paint colour for the new garden fence, Warrior Paints has all the tips, tricks and products you need. Painting tips: Your ceiling and colours

You’ve planned your colours for the walls… but have you considered the fifth wall – AKA the ceiling? When it comes to house painting, more often than not the ceiling is painted a flat white , but being creative in choosing a paint colour for this area can lend incredible dimension and interest to a room. Here at Warrior Paints we have a rainbow of acrylic paint colours to choose from. The question is: should you go bright, light or neutral? Well, that totally depends on type of room you are painting and the atmosphere you want to create. These painting tips should help you decide: Bright, intense colours work well on the ceiling when you want to make a statement that will contrast with fixtures such as lights and cornices. If you choose a bright colour, you should be very sure of your décor and not planning a colour change in the near future. Neutral shades are perfect for a clean and minimal look that is flexible enough to tie in with any colour palette, allowing you to regularly update your décor. Dark, bold colours on the ceiling create a feeling of closeness, and are great in areas with high ceilings, or in rooms where you deliberately want to cultivate a cosy atmosphere (such as the bedroom). Light colours are best used in small rooms to create the illusion of high ceilings and space. If you do choose white as a ceiling (or wall) colour, a slightly warm off-white is usually a better option than pure white, which will create grey toned shadows that can make a room look dull.
