Where can I Purchase Chalkboard Paint

A lot of people use chalkboards, especially in classrooms, but no one ever really stops to think about how they are made, why they are magnetic, and what kind of paint is used on them. Though some might think that the process is simple, especially children in a classroom, there is actually a special type of paint that is used to make the board magnetic, and to give it the surface it needs to accept chalk, and allow that chalk to be erased.

So what kind of paint is involved in chalkboard construction exactly? There are two different types that you need to be aware of, one of which isn’t always used. Whether both of them are used or not is really dependent upon the environment in which the chalkboard is situated, as well as the preferences of the one who is building, or has commissioned the building of the chalkboard.

Types of Paint

The first type paint is actually exactly what you’d expect, it’s chalkboard paint. This type of paint will actually give any surface a slate-like appearance, essentially turning any type of surface into a chalkboard. You can buy this type of paint in two different forms, one form being the traditional can that you have to attack with a flat head screwdriver. This may be the preferred way to do it as it’s very easy to control where this paint goes.

There is another type of chalkboard paint that you need to be aware of, and it is of the aerosol variant. It’s essentially a type of spray-paint hat has all the properties of the regular chalkboard paint. This is a great alternative for those who don’t want to use a brush, the only problem is that sometimes it’s hard to control where spray-paint goes, so you need to keep this in mind when you are choosing the type of chalkboard paint you’re going to get.

The other type that some may or may not decide to use, is magnetic primer. This answers that huge question of what makes a chalkboard magnetic. This isn’t a very strong magnetic substance so you’ll have to put quite a few coats on to get it to work.
