Painting tips

from Warrior Paints:

  • Take as much time as you need to find the perfect colour. Visit paint shops and ask for paint swatches to take home and compare. If you see any photos in magazines or online that you really like, save them and take them into a paint shop to try and replicate the colour. Don’t feel like you have to make a hasty decision.
  • Decide on a finish. There are many finishes to choose from including satin, semi-gloss, matte and high-gloss. Certain finishes reflect more light than others and have a shiny appearance, while matte finishes don’t. The type of finish also determines how easily the door can be cleaned, so keep that in mind as well.
  • After thoroughly cleaning your front door, put a coat of primer on first before you start painting. This is especially recommended for painting a dark door with a light paint colour.
  • Either remove your door from its hinges to paint it or be sure to tape up everything – and don’t forget to protect your floor!
