Mother’s Day with a pop of Water-based Paint Colour

Wondering how you could possibly spoil your mother with water-based paint? Well, with Mother’s Day coming up, we thought we’d give you a really unique idea for celebrating these particularly special women in our lives. While chocolates and flowers are always appreciated, they just aren’t a gift that has staying power. If you want to really make a lasting impact with your Mother’s Day gift, why not use paint?

Mother’s don’t often have the time to indulge in redecorating – they’re too busy looking after their families and making sure we’re all doing well and feeling loved. Redecorating a room in your mother’s home is a great way of giving back just some of the love! Pick a theme you know she’ll love and a room she enjoys using and remake it with a modern, updated pop of water based paint colour that will really blow her away.

The basics of painting a room with water-based paint:

  1. Clear out the room. When you’re painting a room, you want to work on a blank canvas, so furnishings, shelving and clutter must be removed. This will make it easier to move around the room and get the whole area painted, while also keeping your mother’s belongings from getting dirty!
  2. Wash the walls. Before you paint, you need to thoroughly clean the walls to get rid of dust, marks and stains.
  3. Remove nails and fill in any holes. After you’ve painted, you’ll want to rearrange items on the walls, so make sure you remove all nails and then seal up any holes with a filler before you paint.
  4. Put down drop sheets. Drop sheets will keep your mother’s flooring and any large furniture from getting splattered with paint, so these are essential. Black bags, newspaper and old sheets will do just fine as long as you make sure they are covering everything up well.
  5. Pick your colour. Water-based paints come in a huge variety of colours, so you’ll easily be ale to find the one that’s perfect for your mother’s room. These paints are lower odour and more eco-friendly, so you’re doing the environment and your health some good too!
  6. Paint away. Depending on the original wall colour, you may need a few coats of paint before you are happy with the result. Wait for each coat to dry completely before you start the next – as water-based paint is quick drying, you won’t have to wait long!
  7. Replace furnishings and reveal! Once the walls are dry, replace the furniture and hangings to set off your great paint job. Your mother won’t believe her eyes when she sees the time and effort you’ve put into her gift, and by using a top quality water-based paint, it will last for many years to come.
